The Weekly Review

George from Melbourne’s Weekly Review came down today for an article in their adrenalin section. Unfortunately the weather was below our minimums so we could not fly, but got some good pics and fired the Nanchang up for an aural example. To be published in October, check out www.theweeklyreview.com.au

Welcome Nobby!

Warbird Air Adventures welcomes Nobby to the line. Previously with Adelaide Warbirds, Nobuo simply loves flying the Nanchang CJ-6A.

His day job is sitting behind the glowing screens of an Airbus A320, flying scheduled domestic flights but when he’s not flying straight and level he likes to throw the agile Nanchang around the skies above Melbourne.

‘I’ve flown many other types of aircraft on aerobatic joy flights and I just wanted something with more power, speed and manoeuvrability. The Nanchang has all these in spades and is a joy to fly.’

Nobby grew up in Adelaide, where he learnt to fly before moving to northern Australia and flying various types of aircraft in tough conditions in the Outback. After many years of proper bush flying Nobby returned to civilisation to begin start with the airlines and where he still is today, flying his first love, the Airbus A320.

Avalon Airshow – did you see us?

Warbird Air Adventures at Avalon Airshow

No we weren’t flying. Our aircraft was parked behind the Gold Pass stands in the active part of the runways – so people could not get too close! Of course you can get real close and personal with it with your own Adventure Flight.

A great Airshow once again. Only thing missing was more Warbirds – we know there are heaps around the country but it was really only Temora that flew the Warbirds flag.

Avalon Airshow – highlights

What a magnificent weekend! Stunning Melbourne weather for both Saturday and Sunday, with only Friday night’s spectacular evening show requiring some woolies.

Our highlights were the Jelly Belly plane’s crazy antics – we do aerobatics nearly everyday and that looked scary! Also the jet-powered glider’s pyrotechnic night display and the mad Italian rolling the C-27 cargo plane.

For us though, it was of course the Warbirds from Temora that stole the show. Kittyhawk, Boomerang, Spitfire and best of all the Bristol Centaraus powered 5-bladed Sea Fury. Possibly the best looking piston powered aircraft. Also the fastest. Mustang’s and Spitfire’s yeah yeah – the Sea Fury and it’s US cousin the F-5F Bearcat are the ultimate in piston engined fighters. Neither saw real combat. Oh well.

Hawker Sea Fury. 2,480 BHP single seater

A recent customer feedback form from adrenalin.com – this passenger actually drove from Melbourne to be greeted by 30 knot winds, low cloud and rain. After a coffee at Starfish in Barwon Heads the heavens parted and a circle of blue presented itself for us to go play in!

Wanted: Test Pilot Monkeys

space monkey

We require some brave test subjects that are prepared to subject themselves to very high ’G’ forces in high performance military aircraft.

Subjects are fully briefed of their mission before launch. Highly experienced pilots will slowly increase the acceleration forces from weightlessness, or 0 G, through to over 4.5 G and minus 1 G.

Volunteers are not required to be extraordinarily fit or strong – ordinary civilians may apply and will not suffer any adverse effects. This is a rare opportunity for noncombatants to experience the edge of the flight envelope in a completely safe and controlled environment.

All flights are recorded with high definition cameras and can be requested for further study into the effects of high speed, high acceleration flight on the body.

If you know an ordinary guy or gal that would love to experience the extraordinary, please apply to Warbird Air Adventures on 1300 341 006 or sign up via their website www.flyingwarbirds.com.au

Warbird Air Adventures – Back in Barwon Heads

1,300 nautical miles (2,400km) six fuel stops, 600 litres of Avgas and a lot of muesli bars later Warbird Air Adventures is finally back in Barwon Heads!

After finishing our flights in Townsville for 2010 we headed south once again – in search of some sunshine! A truly wet dry season has us hoping for some better weather down south, though something tells me it’s going to be a wet summer.

Our thanks go to everyone in Cairns, Townsville and elsewhere in the Far North that came and shared the sky with us in 2010, we had a great time taking you up. It’s always a pleasure flying such good looking people!

We look forward to our return next dry season in 2011. We’re going to miss the palm trees, the rainforest, the warm weather, and most of all the people.

So home sweet home, Barwon Heads airport is where the Warbird roosts for the summer. We will be heading back up north for a few months in the winter but for now the main base is Barwon Heads airport. Come down and see us or give us a call on 1300 341 006.
